“Groundwater for sustainable development: Where are we?”
The Groundwater Solutions Initiative for Policy and Practice (GRIPP) has entered into a collaboration with the International Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM), a centre of excellence in capacity development in water, and the National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training (NCGRT), Australia, to produce a webinar series on groundwater entitled ’Groundwater for sustainable development’. The series focuses on the emerging groundwater solutions developed under GRIPP and in collaboration with its partners and a host of institutions globally.
Karen G. Villholth (Principal Researcher and Coordinator of GRIPP) introduced the series by setting the stage of groundwater contexts, drivers and historic development, emerging challenges and hot spots around the world. She also discussed trends and approaches in groundwater management responses to human development and climate change, while also highlighting interesting and supportive global-level research, and illustrating emerging integrated and tested solutions, including work on groundwater-based natural infrastructure, which will be further elaborated in the series. The webinar was attended by more than 100 people from all over the world, indicating the pertinence of groundwater issues, and the popularity and reach of ICE WaRM webinars.
