Yvan Altchenko, Hydrogeologist at IWMI presented the Groundwater Solutions Initiative for Policy and Practice (GRIPP), during the IWMI side event on Managing Water for Resilient and Sustainable Development, which was held on 18 July 2016 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, as part of the 6th Africa Water Week. The event was chaired by Jeremy Bird-IWMI Director General.
In addition, AGW-Net in collaboration with, GRIPP, IWMI, Cap-Net, BGR and UNESCO hosted a one-day training course on Groundwater Management in River Basin Organizations, on 20 July. The course also served as the launch for the new training manual Integration of Groundwater Management into Transboundary Basin Organizations in Africa developed by AGW-Net, IWMI and partners over the past few years. Yvan Altchenko was actively involved at this one-day side event by facilitating training of 25 participants (including 8 females) on transboundary groundwater management. Participants of the training came from RBOs and regional organizations such as Observatoire du Sahara et du Sahel (OSS), Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), Zambezi Basin (ZAMCOM) and country officials. Also attending the manual launch were high level representatives from the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH), African Ministerial Council on Water (AMCOW), UNESCO, BGR, Africa Network of Water NGOs, Rural Water Supply Network, Water Aid, government agencies and civil society.
