Call for Abstracts: 3rd SADC Groundwater Conference

The 3rd annual Southern African Development Community (SADC) Groundwater Conference, organized by the SADC – Groundwater Management Institute (SADC-GMI) and supported by several partners of the Groundwater Solutions Initiative for Policy and Practice (GRIPP), will be held on November 24–26, 2020. The conference was initially planned to take place in Windhoek, Namibia, but will now be held as a virtual conference due to the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions. Details of the first and second SADC conferences can be viewed on the GRIPP website.

With the overarching theme of ‘Enhancing Water and Food Security through Sustainable Groundwater Development in the SADC Region’, the third conference seeks to understand the prospects of, and advocate for, a more central and prominent role for groundwater in the water-energy-food-ecosystem nexus as a way of minimizing shocks, risks and vulnerability to climate change.

The 3rd SADC Groundwater Conference, along with the 8th Africa Water Week, scheduled to be held in Windhoek, Namibia, on February 08-12, 2021 (to be confirmed), are aimed at rallying Africa’s water sector towards a common voice as the world prepares for the 9th World Water Forum to be held in Dakar, Senegal, on March 22-27, 2021 (also to be confirmed).
