World Water Week 2021 – Emphasis on mainstreaming groundwater

World Water Week 2021 (August 23-27, 2021), organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), a partner of the Groundwater Solutions Initiative for Policy and Practice (GRIPP), is fast approaching. With the overarching theme ‘Building Resilience Faster’, there is a strong connection to how we manage our groundwater resources. In addition, UN-Water has announced that World Water Day and the World Water Development Report in 2022 will be dedicated to groundwater with the theme ‘Groundwater: Making the Invisible Visible’. As such, World Water Week this year is poised to make a strong emphasis on groundwater, while setting the scene for 2022 and beyond, e.g., to the 2023 United Nations Conference on the Water Action Decade.

A snapshot of sessions with a particular focus on groundwater is given below. GRIPP and partners contribute to several sessions. A special session is dedicated to the five-year anniversary of GRIPP, with the title ‘Valuing Partnerships and (Trans-)Formative Processes for Resilience from the Subsurface and taking place on August 27, 2021 (Friday) from 17:00 to 18:00 CEST.

World Water Week 2021 will be a virtual conference, but aiming to be very interactive. There is an option to attend the conference for free. Enjoy the conference!
